Main sheet
Requirements
Split tail mainsheet, attach the tail to the deck about 4 inches forward
from the back of the boat and as far out as possible. By attaching 4 inches
forward of the stern the boom is not pulled back at all when sailing up wind.
The simplest way to attach is a deck eye; this must be bolted.
I pass the sheet through the deck and attach it at the transom. This
transfers the load away from the deck, and allows me to have an elastic uptake
on the slack side to stop it catching on anything.
At the centre of the boat is a small ratchet block - no cleat. A cleat is an
unnecessary extravagance and can lead to lazy sailing.
