What does membership of the Class and its Class Association give you?
On first joining, you receive a New Members Pack, containing all
sorts of useful information including tuning tips and an Association
Magazine – Alive. (subject to availability).
Information about our discount insurance scheme with Noble
Marine, is also available.
Alive is published three times a year.
This includes lots of tips and information, with fixtures lists,
Open Meeting reports, contact names and addresses.
The Aunty Alb feature is particularly useful, and often hits too close to
the mark for comfort!
Alive often recounts experiences
sent in by our many members from this side of the Atlantic and from the US
and Canada. We often have
competitions, and Albacore Merchandise is also available at very
reasonable prices.
Above all you will be joining an active and very friendly class.
Although we have plenty of younger sailors, many of our members have
passed the “asymmetric” stage of life (or perhaps are just happy with a
more fulfilling challenge) .
On the water we are highly competitive but off it we all know how to enjoy
ourselves! A significant
proportion of our boats are sailed by husband and wife partnerships.
The odd difference of opinion during a race is usually resolved amicably
over a drink after racing rather than any other way.
Protests and divorces are extremely unusual!
If you are looking for a boat which is a good sea-boat but equally at home
in inland waters, very competitive (at 1068 it rates faster than a Laser),
but also forgiving, this could well be the boat for you.
It has no trapeze, no spinnaker, but still gives you plenty to do to get
the very best from it. It is
equally at home three or maybe four up for a cruise.
Ask yourself why people such as Michael McNamara have continued to
sail Albacores over so very many years.
Michael has been the National and International Champion numerous times
and is also involved with the Class Association Committee.
