Albacore Southern Championships at Bexhill Sailing Club

The Saturday race challenged sailors with a stiff but steady 4-5 breeze. Race Officer Ray Dixon set a triangle-sausage course and the fleet got off to a clean start, beating into wind and sea with exhilarating downwind legs.

Sailing the second race back to back gave the crews no rest. Neville Herbert & Steve Penfold (Datchet) scored 3 successive wins. Jean & Derek Simmons (South Cerney) were just as consistent in their second places. Jon & Clare Day (Bexhill) came third in their fist three races, but showed their light wind skill by wining the last race.

The variable wind dropped for the Sunday afternoon race, giving the Race Officer real problems in setting a course of appropriate size and direction. After creeping round for 1 lap, the wind filled in for the second lap allowing Philip Tindall and Roy Box (Maidenhead) to come second. It also made for interesting and close sailing between the Bexhill boats of Geoff Furlong and Bob Sear chasing 3rd & 4th.
