Maidenhead Open
Sunny skies and predominantly light, but very shifty, south easterly
winds greeted 14 Albacores to their Open meeting at Maidenhead Sailing
Club on Sunday 21st April.
In the first race of the day David and Nick Hammond from Ogston SC led
at the first mark a lead which did not change throughout the race. The
Hammonds were closely followed by local Maidenhead sailors Phil Tindall
and crew Roy Box who finished in second, and Victoria Brooks and crew
Richard Thorpe who finished in third place.
In the second race, sailed after lunch, the pattern was very similar
with the Hammonds establishing a commanding lead in the first couple of
legs to take first place with Brooks and Thorpe finishing in second place
and the Smiths in third. The third race was run back to back with the
second and was once again won by David and Nick Hammond with Trevor and
Ann Smith in second closely followed by Phil Tindall and Roy Box third,
with Victoria Brooks and Richard Thorpe fourth.
With the best two races to count David and Nick Hammond were the
convincing winners on their first visit to Maidenhead, winning all three
races. The next three boats - Trevor and Ann Smith, Phil Tindall and Roy
Box, and Victoria Brooks and Richard Thorpe (all from Maidenhead Sailing
Club) finished on identical points, the overall positioning being
determined on the basis of the positions in the final race.
Overall Results : 1. David and Nick Hammond (Ogston SC) 2.
Trevor and Ann Smith (MSC) 3. Phil Tindall and Roy Box (MSC).
