Albacore Open Meeting and Spring Tuning

South Cerney Sailing Club o:p>

South Cerney hosted the Annual Spring Tuning and Open Meeting on 17th-18th May.  The turnout was a little disappointing, probably due to the weather forecast and the Cup Final! However the sailing was interesting in the Southerly winds, that varied from about force 2 to 4.

In the first race, Neville Herbert crewed by Steve Penfold stormed to the front up the first beat, having been over the line at the start.  After a lengthy battle they were overtaken by Norman Halstead and Emma Dean, who eventually won the race with Neville in 2nd place.  Jean & Derek Simmons had a safe 3rd, with Carl Hanson and Paul Talbot fighting hard to retain 4th place.

The second and third races saw early place changes, however Neville Herbert came out on top in both.  John Thompson and Chris Wright from Bristol Corinthian pulled through to gain 4th place.

Sunday morning dawned with everything to sail for.  The Race Officer decided to try and create some entertainment for the spectators, but all Gybe marks were successfully negotiated without incident.  Race 5 decided the final positions throughout the fleet, which were:
