ALBACORE NORTHERN AREA CHAMPIONSHIPS AT OGSTON

Light easterly winds produced close and exciting competition on 15/16 October.
Of the thirteen visitors it was Nigel Potter and Mark Fowler who showed wizard like skill on the testing off-wind legs to win four out of the five races, the first after trailing Mike Banner and Alistair Mitchel for much of the race. As Banner slipped back, Judy and Paul Armstrong and Simon Elliott and Jenny Bailey pulled through for second and third.
Race 2 saw local sailors David and Nick Hammond take an early lead only to be overhauled once more by Potter/Fowler and also Orlando Gledhill/John Frary.
Race 3 on Sunday brought no change to the wind conditions and PRO Nick McLeod necessarily continued with the same course as for Saturday. Potter/Fowler again hit the front, this time more closely followed by the Hammonds with Elliott/Bailey in third and Colin Smith crewed by Mike Holmes in fourth.
Race 4 once more saw Mike Banner challenging the lead but Potter held on to win with Armstrong third.
In the final race the Armstrongs took an early lead to win from the Hammonds and Stephen Dawson and Kim Pickering who had made a strong start with Potter this time finishing fourth.

3rd David & Nick Hammond 7920 14 points
4th Colin Smith/Mike Holmes 7155 17 points
5th Simon Elliott/Jenny Bailey 6853 18 points
