I want to replace my current split tailed mainsheet with one that is lighter and absorbs less water. I notice in the P&B on line shop that Excel Gemini is recommended for this.

Does anyone have any other suggestions and more importantly how easy is it to do the 'split tailed' bit?

I'd appreciate any guidance and other alternative suggestions.

I have made up split tail main sheets twice but it hasnt been a great success.Speed sails sell already made up main sheets for Albs. which have stitched in tails...worth a look.

Ok so how easy, when you peel back the outer core what do you get. Is it already divided into two strands?

Gemini rope

www.marlowropes.com/index.php?option=com...ndsurfing&Itemid=212

has two concentric cores inside the outer cover.

To make a split tail mainsheet peel back and remove the outer cover for the length of the split tail.

At the point of the split extract the inner core through the middle core (as per picture in link above).

You can then splice the inner and middle cores onto the transom fittings.

Thanks John, I'll have a go at that as you make it sound achievable. Usually I end up in a mess when I try to splice strands of rope!
