I know this may be a little premature but we are in the process at SCSC, of organising this year's open event.
We will run five races, three on the Saturday and two on Sunday, four to count.
Pam has kindly agreed to come out of retirement for us, so the usual (very high quality) three course dinner will be served on Saturday evening.
Added to this, I am delighted to announce that Michael McNamara has kindly agreed to run a race training day on FRIDAY 4th MAY. Numbers are limited to a maximum of 15 boats. Cost will depend on number of boats attending. There will be catering (bar of course) and camping for all three days. There will also be a warm Southerly breeze of 10 - 15 knots so there is every reason to make a great weekend of it at South Cerney!
I will post more information when I have it but in the meantime please let me know you are coming so we can cater for everyone.
Looking forward to a great weekend.

Time is marching on relentlessly and I hope the weather will be kind to us for the South Cerney Open plus race training on Friday 4th May.
We now need to gather numbers for the purposes of camping and catering, as well as the training day (15 boats limit).
I have put some info on our website, southcerneysailingclub.org.uk/events/albacore-open but please do contact me here or via email with any questions you might have.
So far, I have;
Pat Jones (also training)
Paul Sleeman
Michael McNamara
Matthew M Smith
Andy Pearce
Dave Whittle (also training)
Judy and Paul Armstrong
Barry Wicks
Ben Thomas
Matthew Thompson
John Woffinden
Jean Simmons (also training. possibly)
Peter Snowdon

Any more from Maidenhead?

I replied on Facebook as soon as you posted it but we're not on the list - 8063 red herring from shearwater.

Sorry Pat.
Oversight on my part. I will add you to the list now.
Can I take it that you are also coming for the training on the Friday?

Yes to Friday since that was the trigger for the quick YES.
Our new Mac's sails are stunning - a knock out - quite literally since Sandy managed to get hit by the boom on a windy gybe on their first outing!

Only three weeks before our South Cerney Open kicks into action!

If there is anyone else yet to sign up, we need numbers for camping and catering, as well as for the training day, Friday 4th May.

Sorry you're not coming Graham. Being a Gloucester man, I hope that we edge out over Sarries.

One thing I forgot to mention is that Pam has also kindly agreed to cater for the training day so, for a very reasonable £5, she will provide sustenance for morning and lunchtime.

Looking forward to seeing everyone.

Dave

We are almost into the final week before the South Cerney Open.
The forecast, at the moment, looks very promising, with a light breeze for Fridya's training and around 15mph for the event itself. The temperature is set to rise too, to up to 20 degrees!
Thank you to everyone who has signed up so far.
There is ample room for camping as well as for training, so if there are any more yet to join us, please reply here as soon as you make the decision to come.
It's going to be a great weekend!

I haven't seen the program yet but I would imagine you need to be ready, changed and rigged by 10am.
If the wind is too light, then Michael will start with a shore based talk with a rigged boat on its side.
I should find out more this evening so will let you know in more detail when I have it.
Looking forward to a great weekend.

A big thank you to all who came to South Cerney for what turned out to be a lovely weekend. Despite the extremely light conditions, race officer, Neil Richardson managed to get in all five races. Next year, I will fill my estate car with Wainright's and Hobgoblin Gold in order to maintain smiles and chuckles.

1st Judy and Paul Armstrong
2nd Barry Wickes and Julie Maidment
3rd Peter Snowdon and Jason Upton

1st South Cerney boat Malcolm James and Liz Hassall

All in all, a very successful event.
