Great video clip on u-tube of a yacht being dismasted by a tanker at Cowes - definitely a brown trouser moment for those on board!
At Weymouth Ben Ainslie capsized and our Star men were dismasted - meanwhile just along the coast at Lyme we were enjoying our Regatta and dog-show with all the "A-list" celebs from Hollywood (Hollywood near Whitchurch Canonicorum that is) The only boats to put up spinnakers on Sunday were youth members in their Fevas - luckily we in Albs dont have to worry about losing face if we decide its a bit breezy

Nasty shock tonight in Poole harbour. One of our micro yacht cruiser racers sank after broach. Spinnaker dragged the boat down and it disappeared. Crew rescued by lifeboat. Naughty things these spinnakers!

Not so much thrills this weekend but doing my stint as Race Officer on Monday in a North-Westerly we had the wind shifting 70 degrees one mile off shore (35 degrees each side of the mean). All the pond sailors will be used to this but at Lyme "it aint natural like - twill be an'ard Winter to be sure etc etc" - still I'm glad I'm not the race officer at the Phantom Nationals which start in 10 days if the wind is going to be naughty like that.
The Alb class at Lyme has been boosted by Tim & Rachel Wadsworth's purchase of Rob Lyne's nearly new 8154 -extremely well fitted out by his firm Allen Brothers (as seen at the Dinghy Show and Llandudno)
Also at Lyme there are rumours of a high profile signing as Arsene Wenger might hope to say (ie a possible transfer of a good sailor from another class)but no rumours of a transfer fee for me

Another breezy afternoon at the Lyme coalface, with the windward mark laid somewhere towards Jersey - we spent most of the time up-wind "ragging" the main, & luckily there was only one gybe each round. When after 4 rounds the top lashing on the jib broke(after only 6 years too) and the jib became like Norah Batty's tights it was a convenient excuse to call it a day

Just got back from two weeks sailing in Turkey.
Water temperatures of 29C, air temp around 35C, combined with great winds. :cheer:
We had to put a reef in one day to prevent spilling my drink! ;)

Wish I could have had the Alb out there, how about setting up a Turkish fleet?

Well, isn't there an Alb fleet in Cyprus? (Greek side)
Surely the IAA could hold the internationals there one year!
