Royal West of Scotland ABC 18th-19th June

Entries gathered from as far as Scaling Dam SC, Windsford Flash SC and Invergordon in the far North of Scotland, unfortunately the weather was not so forthcoming and the first start was delayed for an hour, when racing did eventually start, what wind there was swung through 180 degrees and back again creating a great deal of confusion, and at the end of the last beat some boats gybed three times on the final 50 yards up to the line, Judy and Paul Armstrong were 1st Crawford Reid and Phil Britton gained two places to steal 2nd and Phil Smith and Tom Williams 3rd.

Race 2 started after another delay and PRO Douglas Cloe laid a much smaller course keeping the fleet in a more confined area, Judy was first again with Phil 2nd and local boat of Dick Downie and Laurna McCartney 3rd, given the very changeable conditions it was decided to call it a day and the fleet was sent home.

Sunday dawned with conditions the same as Saturday and the fleet took advantage of the impromptu tuning clinic headed up by last year’s champions Judy and Paul Armstrong, everyone found this beneficial and informative, not least Crawford Reid who was struggling for speed in his newly refurbished GBR7179.

The wind did eventually kick in around lunch time as forecast to allow three starts, the 1st and 2nd places were well contested between Judy and Phil, with Judy taking two bullets and Phil getting his first, everybody else was left to fight for the remaining 3rd places, these going to Dick Downie in race three, Crawford in race four and Dick again in race five.

Racing concluded and Judy and Paul were crowned Scottish Champions for the third time, their winners speech going to great length to applaud the club, the committee and helpers who put in so much effort to provide yet another great Championship.
