Scaling Dam 9th 10th June

A North-North West force 1 to 2 breeze with sunshine and showers greeted the competitors at the 2012 Albacore Inlands at Scaling Dam Sailing Club.

Race 1 got away with Mike Macnamara and Flip Foulds being a bit over keen at the start and having to go back, (not the only time over the weekend). Ex Alb and blast from the past Keith Caush crewed by Zoë Meynell lead at the first mark followed by Paul and Judy and Mike and Flip recovering well in 3rd. At the finish it was Judy using her new Superspars rig 1st, Mike 2nd then 3rd, fleet newcomers Andy Bayliss and Vicky wood in their old Fairey.

Second race Judy lead from the start to finish 1st.with Mike 2nd and Steve Thomas from Rudyard Lake 3rd. In Race 3 Matthew and Ellie Thompson lead at the first mark but were swallowed up by Judy and Mike and at the finish it was Judy 1st, Mike 2nd and in 3rd place was Aaron White crewed by dad Dave. Race 4 ended in another win for Judy and Paul after a real tussle with Andy and Vicky of Hykeham SC who took second, giving the championship to Judy with a race to spare.

A Saturday night proved to be a excellent night with curry, karaoke and drinking until the early hours of Sunday morning.

Sunday morning started light and variable and the last race got away with Mike leading at the windward mark, 15 year old Georgia Booth sailing with Paul Metcalfe-Smith in his boat second, and Crawford Reid crewed by Becky Clarkson sailing close behind. Mike got a bad shift allowing Georgia to take the lead for a while but a luffing match on the last reach between the first three boats allowed Judy to close on the leaders, and the last beat was a close run affair with Mike just pipping Judy on the line to take a well earned win, Crawford was 3rd with Georgia 4th.
