Hazy sunshine and a sea temperature of over 17 degrees made for comfortable sailing, but a rare Easterly wind varying between 6 and 14 knots, coming from the direction of Golden Cap, (the highest land on the South Coast of England), and consequent big shifts in direction caused problems for both the competitors and the race officials trying to set out fair courses.
Of the 13 competitors Neville Herbert and Mark Fowler read the shifts best but individual races were won by Crispin Read-Wilson sailing with Jake Stow, and Jerry Rook crewed by Dave Stubbs, both from the home club.
Mention must be made of the race team at Lyme, who smoothly carried out course changes, both in direction and distance. Unfortunately for our class the club is fully booked with championships up until and including 2018.
