Yesterday I acquired a very old Alb. The hull doesn't appear to have a number carved into the hog, so I'm not sure of the hull or sail number. (it's usually behind the plate case, right?)
The owner gave me a photo of her sailing off Swanage with red sails bearing the number A90. She has a steel centreboard, rear deck, full length side tanks but no bow tank and splashboards. The mast and boom are early gold anodised Proctors.
In with the sale came two old suits of Ratseys with sail numbers A39 and A54. Also an early suit of Mustos with the sail number A1468 and an old but decent set of Macs also sail number A1468.
I'm hoping the previous owner (in south Wales) may be able to shed some light on why he believes she is A90 and also where the other sails came from.
Do any of these sail numbers ring any bells with anyone?
I bought the boat on Ebay, expecting her to be a somewhat younger Fairey, with a view to updating her as a entry level club racer or " dock boat" as they're affectionately known as up here in Grimsby!!.... removing the rear deck, cutting down the transom, sorting out the tanks, removing the splashboards etc.
I think she may be too old for this and more deserving of being kept as a classic.
Anybody interested?
