I notice that the class rules prohibit the use of any Electronic Device other than a compass. Is a Tac Tic Micro Compass which is solar powered defined as an electronic device and therefore not allowed?

The latest rules allow the use of electronic compasses as long as they dont correlate bearing and time.
In essence if they tell you your bearing they are ok (eg TackTick Micro compass), if they make tactical decisions for you (such as the big boat TackTics) then they are not.

Whilst the second link refers to a temporary rule, the words have been included in the latest ISAF format re-write which are soon to be published.

Thanks John thats very helpful and classes need to move with the time whilst still preserving the essence of what they offer which is good simple sailing.
