Hi Everybody

Have purchased an old Fairey albacore 1258 "Scusi", already having a lot of fun teaching the kids how to sail. I am returning to dinghy racing afer a 19 year hiatus. Really fancy entering the Looe nationals, used to sail out of Plymouth. Do you think it is worth my time entering the nationals with this boat? If it's not entirely hopeless, can someone tell me who I need to contact to get her measured. Look forward to meeting some of you in due course.

Nick.

Hi Nick
Last year there were 3 Albacores of a similar vintage to yours (550, 731 & 1981) and I know of at least 2 others going to Looe this year. So as long as the boat has reasonable-ish sails (ie not the originals!) and the basic controls you should be fine. The is a Handicap trophy for Fairey hulled boats, so that will give you something to go for.
The event is sponsored by a brewery, so how much more persuading do you need?
Get yourself booked up and we will see you there!
As for the certificate - the first port of call is the RYA Technical department, if they have records of the boat you wont have to have it re-measured. Their contact details are on the RYA website.

Nick,

You can ring the RYA with a credit or debit card and sort it over the phone for a miserly 20 quid. I have had to do this twice for my A195, which incidentally I took to the US last year for the Internationals. We had a great time - mind you there was free beer all week - and I would say definitely go to Looe.

Regards,

Steve
