I am in the process of throwing away my muscle boxes that I used for shroud length adjustment. The muscle boxes have too much friction and not enough throw.

I am going to use a block system.

Not sure how many purchases to use. My current system is 16:1 on the shrouds and 16:1 on the jib halyard. The two shroud tails I currently have joined together so I can pull both shrouds simultaneously or I can tweak individually. I quite like this part of the current set up

Should I stick with the 16:1 on the shrouds on my new system?

Should I have more or less purchases?

Any opinions?

Sould I stick with 16:1 on the Jib Halyard? – It seems OK to me

I also seem to have too many purchases on my strut currently 12:1 very eassy to pull on but seems a lot of friction when I try to let the mast forward, any comments?

Hi Richard

There appears to be two problems here, first too much friction, and second not enough throw (distance). Before you change the whole system why not try the following..... put thinner cord into the muscle boxes, this should reduce the friction, if this works, look at the possibility of adding throw off levers, this will add distance into the system.

The main benefit is you improve on a working system. As for the Jib Halyard if it's working..... guess what leave it!

The only other option to throw off levers is to have a rough feed and then the muscle boxes for "fine" tune.

Cheers

ps also check the direction of pull from and to the muscle box this could be a scource of friction.Derek Gibbon2008-11-03 14:06:53

I would go for the throw off levers, a lot quicker to get off at the windward mark, just watch your fingers. I get 25mm stainless rings welded to the lower lever so you can keep fingers clear, also makes it easier to get them off.
