One of my quadrant-style rake adjusters failed on a windy run on Sunday-and wrecked the mast in the process. Is it still possible to buy these levers, as I can't see them in the various chandler's catalogues I have.

I'd also advise anyone using these to replace at intervals-mine did 20 years, but failure was catastrophic. Thankfully, I'm insured with Noble Marine...

Hi

This will give you an opportunity for a suspended fly away jib pole, if you need details of how to do this then go to the tuning section from the home page.

I replaced the Quadrant levers on 6852 with special made stainless steel plates with pullies attached so that I could attach an adjustable system. I will take a photo before the weekend and post it or email to you. Which club do you sail from? It may be that a local boat will be able to give you an opportunity to see first hand.

Mine's a Porter GRP, and on removal of the quadrants, seems ready-drilled for channel-style chainplates. I rarely used the quadrant levers, so won't miss them-they were a regular trap for jibsheets.

Lost the jibstick overboard in the chaos too. Thanks for the offer though

my boat has chain plates under the deck (I beefed the support -> hull void with a fillet and bolted right thru the hull) and also the Highfield levers on the shrouds.

Chain plates can be difficult to find as being aluminium/steel combo they corrode. If you change your mind or want both as I have, give me a shouted_cruwys2008-11-12 18:51:01

Thanks-very kind, but I'm not fitting these again! The lever broke in half, went out through the deck (breaking the deck bush, whipping up and took the burgee off the top of the mast)-so I'm going for fixed chainplates instead! Lucky I didn't have the decks taken off too.

Hi Stewart,

This is a common problem with quadrants, probably seen 4 or 5 go over the years. It is probably best to look at another solution.

Good Luck

Yes-a pair is required, in as-new condition. For info-the port one went!

Hi Stewart

I am not sure if quadrant levers are still available, most have been replaced with shroud adjustment systems that use cascade systems to lengthen the shrouds. You may find that someone has replaced quadrants and they are lying in the back of a garage, or maybe they had the same problem as yourself and one broke. Which side broke and therefore which side do you need. A word of caution though... if one went the other may be ready to go? If I were you I would replace both and also think seriously about putting in a muscle box/pulley system.

Cheers Derek 7176 et al

It was a suspended flyaway pole-the string broke! Look forward to seeing how you fitted the adjusters.

Having brought the boat home to repair, I realise how lucky I was it wasn't worse. The half of the lever attached to the shroud managed to exit the deck hole removing only a tiny piece of veneer (will be covered by the deck bush) and whipped round the top of the mast, taking the burgee off!
