Yachts and Yachting are running their annual pursuit race again at the London Boat Show at Excel in the Docklands. Only 2 boats per class are allowed, and we have put up a good show in the last 2 years. It helps Albacores as the wind gets channelled up or down the dock so the course tends to be beating & running - not too much horrible reaching!

2 free tickets to the Show go with each boat entry so if there is anyone who would like to go please contact the committee

We failed to make it due to vacillation on my part I'm afraid - then it was too late to enter. Still it was another win for the "handicap bandit" Phantom ( as was the Bloody Mary). As you know Trevor, Phantoms sail off a handicap of 1000 at Sutton Bingham in order to give the other classes a chance!

Yes a difficult day all round,

Charles & I race rusty after Christmas & the wind although the same for all was 'difficult'.

We are improving the rig systems & taking new settings on the Alb. This was the first chance for Charles to sail he Alb with his latest Hyde Sails designs.

By the way, didn't have the fly away pole or sufficent breakfast amongst other things.

We are sailing the Boat at the Hoo Freezer event weekend 7 & 8 February, not too sure of details at the minute, I'm sure someone will know. It would be good to have some other Albs out to compare notes.

Regards to all

Oops, That'll teach me to trust Y&Y links. Guess I will have to get the old rocking chair out! Well done Charles and Mark; nice to see Charles back in that Alb saddle - I remember him sailing at Halfway. Hope he can get a boat for the Ints,

Well done to Jerry & Tim Rook (6th) and John & Janet Wofinden (13th) in a field of over 50 boats and some top helms. For full results and pics (no Albs!) go to www.yachtsandyachting.com/news/?sa=1&article=139829

Charles and Mark got 15th place - well done to them in a very hot field. In the photos, it looks like tricky conditions again.

Albacore pics (1 or 2) are on the main Y and Y home page. Select the story details about the Boat Show then go to 'Photo Gallery'. About 50 photos but only few Alb ones!

The final weekend is "Dinghy Weekend" www.londonboatshow.com/features/dinghy_weekend.aspx

Just 1 pursuit race on the Sunday ("battle of the classes"). There are also "Skiff Grand Prix" races on Saturday.
There will be a few dinghies on show outside for the final weekend, but only those classes that want to exhibit and man a stand are there.

In the main exhibition, you will only see the dinghies that suit the sailing schools and holiday companies - Laser, RS, etc.
I plan to go to support Mark and Mary. I did the race last year - the 90deg windshifts are worse than Maidenhead, but its still good fun.

Derek,hi

The format is 2 pursuit races in the dock alongside the exibition hall. KO midday.

This is the London Boat Show previously held at Earls Court.

There is something for everyone interested in boats, from a shackle to a Gin Palace. It is a good day out & bargains to be had at the Chandlery stands.

Hi Mark

I did look at the web site but it is a bit confused. I looked at a list of exhibitors and yes there are some dinghies, the "manufacturer" clases etc. Is it a particularly well attended show?

I suspect I will save my "ticket" and brownie points for the dinghy exhibit in March.
