I am sure this is a question that comes up regularly
But are tacktick Compasses allowed by the class and if not why not?

Over here in Canada, lots of us use them. Easy to read from a hiking position. Accurate. Low maintenance as they are solar powered.
You need to find a nice place to mount it where nothing will catch on it. It removes easily for storage.

Tacktick compasses are allowed:



The latest rules allow the use of electronic compasses as long as they dont correlate bearing and time.
In essence if they just tell you your bearing they are ok (eg TackTick Micro compass), if they make tactical decisions for you (such as the big boat TackTics) then they are not.

Whilst the link refers to a temporary rule, the words have been included in the latest ISAF format re-write which are being finalised.

I Spoke to Tacktick today and seemingly the only product they do that we can use within our rules is the T060 (T061 with a bracket) but at Ł230 (Ł201 from www.bluev.co.uk/tacktick-micro-compass-display-t060-354-p.asp ) it is a bit expensive. But it does conform.
