Trevor

Older forum posts see to have dissapeared from the forum (I was looking for the thread on el;ectronic compasses in response to Chris' question).

Are they archived or just deleted after a period of time?

It they are deleted we could be loosing a valuable resouce. Can this be configured?

Hi John

If you change the filter to any time rather than the default of 6 months it will go back 7 pages tp December 2007, is this far enough?

Derek, Yes I was aware of that, but the thread I was looking for was from 2006.

John, There is a post in Apr 2008 on the subject of micro compasses which might be useful. In general, I can batch delete anything not posted to in up to 2 years. I last batch deleted anything more than a year old in late 2007 so I would lose the item you describe. Apparently the forum slows down if there are too many posts in there. A large number pass in the night because they refer to a specific event so they can be lost but I agree there may be useful items lost. The only answer would be to screen before deleting and make a judgement about long term usefulness. Ultimately the best place for items such as the compass debate would be the tuning section of the main site. I will have a look and see if I can strip the threads out and paste them into that section, Wot U fink? Trev

I would be surprised if the number of posts that the site gets would cause a problem for quite a few years. A lot of forums get more in a day than we get in a year, so Im not sure the pruning would make much difference.

If pruning is needed, how about separate sections for Technical/Tuning, Events, etc?

As long as people use the Active Topic link, they wont miss out on new items and it may be easier to prune separate sections.
