Just a quick questions to see if anyone out there can tell me the actually name of the colour and maybe source of paint for my red Albacore (6939). It is the standard colour red that I have seen in many pictures.

I have a few patches that need painting and so will only need a small amount.
Any help will be much appreciated.
Thanks
Paul

Thank you one and all for your very useful ideas on the the "red paint" question. I think I can see the way ahead from here. Perhaps I'll buy one tin of each paint stripes!
Thanks again

Was prolly true when white paints were Lead based but now they are Titanium based the paint should be lighter. Yes Cadmium is a heavy pigment in red paint. White and blue hulls are the lightest GRP colours.

Does that mean that white hulls would be illegal for using a banned exotic material (Titanium - banned by rule 14.8). I think my hull must be pigmented with Zinc, so I'm okay!

White paint uses the most white pigment and hence is heavier than darker colours, may be we should all have black boats!

Hummmmm..., are you pulling my leg or has someone been winding you up?
Whilst the reverse is true for GRP boats - the red pigment required for a Red GRP boat is heavier that for a white one (which is why there are very few red GRP boats around), Im not sure a similar argument could be applied to paint, given that the thickness of paint compared to gelcoat is minimal and therefore any differential weight due to pigment would be minimal.
Anyone got a full tin of red and a full tin of white to weigh and compare?
As for black boats - been there done that.

My boat looks a bit sorry for itself....but I am hoping the various scuff marks and loss of topcoat will help make the boat lighter given the weight of the crew!

I am, of course, the very proud owner of one of the boats coated with extremely fast red paint.

It's Epifanes Monourethane 3116 and can be found here: www.epifanes.com/home.htm

They aren't all the same of course...

Happy patching

My boat is now "Wochelle Wed", I did originally paint it with Ferrari Red car paint, but it looks about the same to me. The best option I suggest is painting the whole boat with a roller and then tip off with a Jenny brush, wet and dry the boat before hand.

Hope this helps

'Rochelle Red' is a bit orangey and I plumped for International 'Chilli Red'

"Rochelle Red" sounds like a suitable word for Life of Brian's Roman governor played by Michael Palin- Wochelle Wed, Welease Woderwick etc
