I have 2 top yotters looking for competitive boats for the Champs this year so anyone not able to come could improve the value of their boat!

Well-sailed Phantoms Always beat Albacores at Lyme in under about 18 knots of wind - its a boat-speed place.

Simon Heusen is a good mate and has always had some interest in our class & he is about as far as possible from a pot-hunter as one can get.

It was my suggestion that he should try an Albacore at the champs - the idea did not not come from him

So was I pot hunter in 2005 then? Well I did get some pots, but have done two Worlds since.

To be honest, I only sailed the event because I couldn't face sitting in a rescue boat for a week.

Funny how things turn out!

In general, of course I agree we should welcome potential new members at the Nationals or any other meeting for that matter, so why do I believe Simon Heusen is probably a "pot hunter". Because he sails at Lyme where there is a fleet of Albs so he knows the boat well and presumably could have a go in one at any time in a club race if he was thinking of changing class . He just beat the local Albs in a handicap event, and knows that some of the Lyme helms are amongst the best in the class, and the Nationals are on his doorstep ---. Of course I could be wrong; time will tell.

I have to agree with Jerry and Richard. I know that one of last years guest helms has a new boat on order.

The Alb does not have the "sexy" image of more modern boats, but I think those that do try the class realise that it offers good close racing.

I agree with Jeremy - We should encourage every one to race Albs at the nationals. Some of the newcomers will get infected by the Alb bug and stay with the class. I believe the bigger the fleet a Lyme this year the better for the class.

Its importatnt to keep new people coming into the class - how do you know that they have no intention of joining?

I think true "pothunters" would want to figure in classes perceived to be more "sexy" than ours

I cannot understand why anyone would wish to lend a boat to a pot hunter who clearly has no intertion of joining the class.

Providing a boat to a Canadian Albacore sailor is, of course a completely different kettle of fish.

The 2 are Simon Heusen a Phantom sailor at Lyme who just won the Starcross Steamer (who will need a light-ish crew) and Warner Monteiro from Canada whohas consistently been in the top ten at our championships

Jerry

Could we please have the names of the 'top yotters' hoping for a win at the Champs?

I may wish to improve the value of my boat?

I am of the opinion that with more Ovington boats going on the water then there are more likely to be boats available for crews wanting 'a taste'.

The point is that the wood boats & I include mine in this, are far more vunerable to damage than the bullet proofiing Chris has done with the Ovi hulls.

Our current National Champion happens to be a rock star Phantom sailor, but also enjoying his Alb racing.
