Hi All,

have just purchased a used Speed boat which has been "improved". Please can anyone tell me how the coarse / fine shroud controls were led on the standard layout?

This boat has coarse at 36:1 (6 under foredeck x 6 directly to the shroud) led to each side of the thwart.

The individual shroud letoffs are on the two 6:1 purchases directly to the shrouds but not cross fed so not that handy.

I would like both coarse and fine should be led back but there is only room at the thwart for 3 cleats - currently kicker/coarse shroud/jib halliard.

Any input very welcome before I start drilling any holes,

Thanks,

Mike St Paer

Hi Mike

Your fine adjustment sounds like the standard Speed set up. Im not sure there was a standard for the coarse adjustment. I know of three options that have been used:

1) No coarse adjustment with levers to let the leeward shroud off.

2) 6:1 taken from the second tail of the purchase lead across the boat to forward of the crew on the opposite side.

3) 6:1 taken from the second tail of the purchase lead back to centreboard case.

I had my boat rigged as per (3) but I have now changed it so that the coarse adjustmen is lead back to where the fine adjustment was on each side. The fine adjustment is now lead to the centreboard case.

John,

many thanks.

I was planning to do approx what you have suggested as my last boat had exactly that system all run on cascades so it ran very freely, but wanted to "sense check" it before any mods.

There are a couple of sets of holes on the vertical part of the bulkhead of the new boat each side of the mast - would they perhaps have been the original letoff cleat positions?

Cheers,

Mike St P
