I see the Starcross Steamer is scheduled for Sunday 13 March. In the past it has been a usual Merlin & Phantom benefit, but new handicaps might help.
The race-officering has been a bit suspect in the past - last year they announced over the PA that racing was postponed by 30 minutes, then a breeze sprang up and because there were no Mirrors etc they announced the starts were re-scheduled - which effectively brought our start forward 10 minutes from the advertised time of start(lots of muttering but no-one protested)
In a previous year the watchers on the shore were told over the PA that a junior crew from Lyme were in the lead with 5 minutes to go so we all watched - no-one overtook them but when the results came out it was announced a local team had won -funny that.
The Exmoor Beastie is a more user-friendly event but I see there is no date yet for the 2011 event - I expect the locals are too busy looking for lost sheep
