Has anyone tried telltales in the middle of the mainsail for reaching as recommended by Barney?
I have taken out my wife's needle & wool and done the deed on my best mainsail but its been too rough at Lyme to give it a trial

Hi Jeremy

I have tried using extra tell tales on a new jib that came without any and managed to obtain some useful red and green stick on ones. The sticky part is the flat base which you stick to the required place on the sail and there is a thin piece of ribbon or wool attached.Anything to keep the crew happy! They are not cheap but better than putting holes in good sails particularly Macs. I also had problems with airflow across the mainsail and planned to do the same. In the end I changed the mast - a bit radical but solved the problem! I believe the sticky tell tales were by RWO but have seen similar in several brands. I am surprised that sail manufacturers do not supply more tell tales already sewn in to new sails. Maybe Michael can advise? Any comments from NUMBER ONE ON A REACH? You must have got the name from somewhere!

Hi

I have been using Owen Sails for some time and Chris normally puts on camber stripe (at least I think that's what it's called) near the top of both sails. I also have 3 tell tales very high above the stripes on the main which allows me to gauge the twist which when on the beat or reach, it also gives me great feedback on whether I have the right amount of kicker.

Cheers Derek
