Just rigged up 6949 for the first time and suspect the shrouds on the (Proctor) mast are at least about 3-4 inches too short. Can't get the mast to drop forwards of upright with rig tension fully off. Mast was sited correctly and spreaders looked in roughly the right position.

Am I making a schoolgirl error or do I need to invest in some new shrouds? Is there an optimum shroud length? - can't see anything on the tuning guide.

Any advice much appreciated otherwise we're looking at v poor downwind performance for the forseeable....

Hi H,

Good to hear your back in the Albs!

You will need to measure from the top of the mast to the inside of the transom floor.

You will need 23ft 6 inches, for an up right mast. Mark the jib tension and shroads tension for this setting. Do the same for 23ft3, 23ft and 22ft10.

With big Andy in the front, try and keep the mast up right!

Good luck. Any problems give me a shout.

Best wishes

Phil

If you want to get technical use 180, 200, 240 and 300 lbs of shroads tension.

I suspect shroud lengths vary considerably from boat to boat depending on how they are adjusted. I looked at one of Barneys boats it had very short shrouds that ran into a 2:1, the first block of this cascade system must have been at least 18" above the deck.
How are your shrouds adjusted. I suspect there is something wrong with the adjustment system. I would check this out before buying new shrouds

Thanks both, will have another look at the weekend with Big Andy (snigger) and my tape measure. Blocks are about 12 inches above the deck so it may be the tensioning system that needs re-rigging.

If you zoom in on the advert on Apollo duck it seems as though the blocks are meant to be about 12" above the deck, so might need more dyneema/wire in the tensioning system:
