This long awaited event will be hosted by South Yell Boating Club Shetland on 14th - 15th June 2014. NOR later.

Steven Brown has a fun packed week end planned and is also chasing up several lines of sponsorship to help with travel expenses.

Anyone contemplating the journey should probably post here so that we can get together and perhaps share costs, I suppose I should start practicing my drinking now!!

Friday evening. Bottle of wine down. The Smiths are interested. ( I wanted to go to Cuba next summer but given my husband insists on bloody Shetland and the travelling time / logistics are about the same what can you do?)

Let us know when more information available

I intend to go - my wife is very keen to see the Shetland Islands. South Yell Boating Club must be one of the most Northerly sailing clubs in the World - that fact alone should be good for some publicity

Hi Crawford, Brian and I are definite. Also with working and staying close to Aberdeen I am happy to be on hand to help with any logistics at this end.
Maybe able to borrow a double combie from our club.

As I need to return the Team Trophy it would be foolish to make the trip without the boat!!
Without the excuse of the Europeans I would probably never make it to the Shetlands.
Will try and drum up some more support from Tewkesbury.

Hi all

With my daughters wedding on the following weekend, regrettably I don't think we can make make it. (something about a wedding to pay for)

I wonder how Emma would feel about getting married in the Shetlands?

regards

I would like to go - visiting the Shetlands is on my bucket list. Is there is an albacore in Yell that I could borrow?

We hope to bring at least two boats from Invergordon and I can lend Barney a new boat, my new Ovington hull 8190.

South Yell Boating Club
Most Northerly club in the world. Steven, would this be true???

With all these additional men coming,I know there will be enough drink but, what's the women situation? I'm not so keen on dancing with men!!

Hi all,

Yes this is looking very positive for next years championships on the 14th and 15th June at the South Yell Boating Club, Burravoe, Yell, Shetland ZE2 9AZ.

The SYBC is not the most Northerly, that club is at Baltasound on the isle of Unst, where the RAF first introduced us to the Albacore, but if folk come early or stay on we can organise a sail there. I'll have to checkout if Shetland has the most Northerly clubs, we are at 60 degrees North if anyone wants to check.

We are working on sponsorship, the NOR and the SIs at the moment, details to follow.

Barney, I have organised my old bullet proof speed sails alb for you to sail, along with its present owner as crew if you are able to make this way.

The social is fairly well organised you'll be surprised to hear, it will be the local carnival so lots on. We should find enough ladies for Crawford to dance with.

Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie were here in the summer looking for a wedding venue, so anything is possible.

This will no doubt be a great event, the last time me and dad where up we had a great laugh. I don't think I will make it but we will see further down the line. Dad will be very happy that so many people are heading up for a good time

Hi all,

Just some info on getting to Shetland, although I don't want to put people off heading North.

You can fly in from Aberdeen, Glasgow, Edinburgh and Inverness airports. We have little chance of sponsorship for this travel so it would be whatever you get quoted. The flights are by FLYBE, but I think you can also book through BA.

Northlink Ferries operate the overnight service, from Aberdeen or Scrabster to Shetland.
We can get folk a cheaper "islander" rate by being linked through a "friends and family" scheme they have, which we have to do from this side. Rates for this year are below.
Car return £147
Passenger return £36.40
2 berth cabin £140
4 berth cabin £134
Boats are additional cost per metre, but not sure of rate yet.
We are looking to get sponsorship from the ferry company but their scheme has not been rolled out yet, but I am hoping to get boats for free and a further 50% reduction of fares.

Accomodation on Yell will be free as we will house folk in the village.

More later

Steven

It now looking like 4 or 5 boats coming from Invergordon, we may even be able to make it 6 boats. As we are the nearest club to Shetland we are all trying to make the effort to go for the weekend.
