Hi everyone,

A long awaited update on our event, but, all the race preparations are in place, the social(s) are just about there and the weather is reported to be fine.

I have posted travel prices before but best to get a direct quote from Northlink Ferries and make the booking. I am waiting to hear this week if we have won the sponsorship from the ferry company, but any discount will be refunded to any bookings made.
As a last resort, people can be added to our local "friends and family" list and receive an islander discount (30%) we get, so please get booking and come to Shetland.

More news is that the local Shetland Dinghy Championships are on the weekend before our event, the 7th and 8th June, if you want to extend your trip, which I know some are doing.

Bookings and info from www.northlinkferries.co.uk
Reservations 0845 6000449

For accommodation please email me with your requirements at broonir@btinternet.com

More to come later

Cheers
Steven

We have booked the ferry and are looking forward to the event. As a further note the Shetland Classic Car and Motorcycle show is on the weekend before the championships.
We are taking in both events.

I have just booked our ferry from Aberdeen to Shetland and already places are staring to fill up so don’t miss out, book soon.
Although the sponsorship is not yet confirmed, any bookings made will either be discounted when it is in place or changed to the local family and friends scheme. The booking staff are Northwards are really helpful and friendly so give them a ring for prices and details.

Hi everyone,

As stated by gybebunny, please phone Northlink and ask for a price.

I am delighted to say we have got Northlink sponsorship to help travel to the Islands, but you must be registered by "a local" to get Islander rates, so please email me to get this done, broonir@btinternet.com

We also have sponsorship set from BP and several local companies for prizes for the event, but we would also need the trophies for the Scottish and Euros returned please, so if you have one, or two could you please email me.

The sailing committee is in place and the social events are getting organised, its gonna be a good een!!

Accomodation will be organised locally so please email your requirements please.

Details from Northlink for travel as follows;
We have applied a consistent approach for funding to all applicants, with successful applicants each receiving a 50 per cent off their foot passenger fare. Please note, there is no discount against any cabin accommodation or vehicles, these will be available at islander or concession rate. Instead, we will be offering extra discounts by way of free breakfasts for journeys for arrivals into Lerwick, and one free cinema ticket per person per journey on participating routes. Breakfasts should be requested at time of booking with the vouchers being issued at check-in; and passengers can claim their free cinema ticket for the film of their choice by presenting their boarding card in the Northern Isles Gift Shop at time of purchase. Please see the confirmed details of your sponsorship offer enclosed, with the value of sponsorship given to you or your club this tranche, according to the details on your application, of £1,219.

How to make your reservation
To make your sponsorship reservation with NorthLink, please contact our reservations department on 0845 6000 449 and quote your unique code S14VF5-009. This will enable you to access your specially discounted fare. Alternatively, you can take your sponsorship letter into one of our ports or offices to book with one of our Customer Service Team. Please note, sailings can become busy very quickly, therefore early booking is strongly recommended.

Cheers
Steven

OK I just now bought a ticket from Washington DC to the Shetlands. Looking forward to seeing some of the Shetland Islands and sailing in some really cold and windy conditions!

Hi Everyone,

The event coming soon on the 14th and 15th June in Shetland will be the Northlink and BP Scottish and European Championships.

Things are coming together well for the event and we have several boats coming North to take on the Vikings.

The competitor list so far, along with our local fleet consists of Barney Harris, Jerry Rook, Matt Thomson, Hazel Smith, Gordon Scott, Crawford Reid, Charlie Frize and Mike Banner.

Still time to book that trip of a lifetime!!

We are still trying to track down some trophies so please get in touch if you have any shining away in your trophy cabinets?

See you soon
Steven

Steve,

I have one shield for the team trophy. Apparently there are two - identical?
Positively we were only awarded one at Llandudno.
I believe Mike Mac won that event so should have the winners trophy.
There was also some confusion when the trophies were handed out so he may have the other shield in error.

See you soon.

Hi all,

Well that's the BP Sullom Voe and Northlink Scottish and European Championships finished, heads have cleared and a full report will be put on the site soon with some photos as well.

This is a quick mail to say Barney Harris and Douglas Leask (7994) are double champions with Charlie Frize and Brydon Leask (8188) second and Crawford Reid and Graham Russel (6703) third.

Cheers

Just a quick note adding to crawfords, a huge thanks to Steven and everyone involved which turned out to be pretty much everyone on Yell,Mainland and Unst in making the event one which will live long in the memory!

It really was that good, from weather through to the beer! So glad we were there to experience it and i was able to convince the boss visiting Shetland was far better than going to Cuba! Where else could you bet on sheep racing on a Saturday night?

Such a surreal weekend I thought it must have been a dream!!
Fantastic from start to finish.
I will certainly go again - but need about 4 years for the bank balance and liver to recover - and Ellie needs more practice on the Accordian!

Matt and Ellie.
