Hi

Shortly going to have to make the decision on whether to repair/sell/scrap our albacore. We've owned it for over 25 years and was originally bought in a bad state, main issue was that the hull had been compromised when the previous owner loaded it full of water. We bought it to learn to sail in on the cheap so it was patched, before having new decks, seats etc.

Its been stood inside now for over 15 years but previously stood outside so the wood has suffered and will need a full rebuild assuming the hull is salvageable.

Its a fairey marine built boat hull #52 we think so i'm guess early 1950s.

So the million dollar question is

keep it and restore
sell as a job lot
strip anything useful and have a nice wood fire.

It has a road/launch trailer, 3 sets of sails, alloy mast and boom, bouyancy bags, steel center board, all fittings and rudder.

only little bit of added info is that we believe it spent some in the ownership of the navy and may have spent sometime in cyprus. Was bought from keswick in the 90s after being abandoned at a boat yard, perhaps its where we should have left it!.

answers/suggestions on a postcard.

Keep it and restore it and bring it to sail at cvrda (Classic and Vintage Racing Dinghy Association) events with other boats of that age.

The cvrda forum is a mine of information on renovation and restoration and you'll find plenty of advice, experience of restoring Fairey boats and answers to any questions you pose.

If you really don't want it, advertise it very cheaply as a job lot on the cvrda forum but don't burn it. It must be one of the earliest Albacores around.
