I have hull number 1895 - see lots of talk on this forum and elsewhere about the benefits of certain hull designs etc....I understand this means my build year is 1969 , what / which hull do I have?

Hi
Almost certainly your hull will be a Fairey Marine.

The pictures here registry.albacore.org/identify may help confirm.
Note that some of the builders listed in the article are U.S. Or Canadian rather than UK.
Fairey hulls were shipped to the U.S.

Hi,
What you have given is the hull number. What is the sail number?
If she is one of ours she will have the sail number carved into the hog between the transom and the back of the centreboard case.

Best Wishes,

Rob Young

I have a GRP Albacore number 7759. There is a an albacore listed on the Registry 7752 which looks very similar and is listed as being made by Amos and another one on the Albacore registry which is 7754 and is a GRP boat and is listed as a JD Young. On the identifying your albacore page, registry.albacore.org/identify list JD Young as a manufacture of wooden boats and do not list Amos at all. The other details that I can find is that there is a date written onto the sails of 1990, which I guess is when the boat was measured.

Hi Chris 7754 is a wooden JD Young (there was an error in the build material in the registry).
If you can post some pictures ( or email them to webmaster@albacore.org.uk ) then we can take a look. GRP boats around that number are likely to be either an Amos or a Porter.
I'm guessing you don't have the boat's certificate.

7759 was built by Paul Amos Sailing Dinghies who built a total of 17 boats between '89 and '91. This one was registered on 8th June 1990 and at that time was called "Ankers Doom". Paul was actually more prolific than Porter Brothers so I don't know why he doesn't get a mention on the registry.

Hi Norman, The builder info is on the US Alb site, so I am guessing that few (if any) Amos boats went over the pond. I wonder if I can get a copy of the info you have - I will drop you an email but not sure if the address I have for you is up to date.

Norman thank you for that. 7759 is in a fairly poor state now. I knocked a one inch hole on the centreline which I am going to attempt to fix and there are also hundreds of pin prick holes appearing in the gelcoat which expose the fibreglass. We have attacked these with a dremel which has made them much larger and we are filling these with plastic padding gelcoat filler. I plan to fix the hole on the centreline at near the bow with West System epoxy, but it it my first time doing fibreglass repairs, and I would take any advice. I will take some pics and put record the boat on the Registry.
