Can any of you good folk advise me how I can attach a block to the boom in order to convert it to a centre main. What bracket should I use and what method of fixing.

Whats inside the enclosed section of boom, will drilling it potentially damage the outhaul mechanism?

My kids don't like the rear main and I'd like them to be able to enjoy sailing it.

Hi Paul, has your boob got a track on the bottom, if it has you need a slider with a locking nut check with your local chandler, where are you based, ? if it hasnt then you need a strap at the end and a strap at the point of tale off above your centre jammer, if you want more help, email me graham.darvill1@btinternet.com

Thanks for the reply Graham, I'll have to check for under track but I don't think it has. How would I fit a strap above centre jammer if it hasn't a slider and is a solid encased boom with the sail sliding into a track on the top? I'm based at Dovestone Sailing Club, Greenfield. Greater Manchester.

Rivet or self-tapper?

I would go for something more like this so the rivets are more in shear.

Dont forget to use Duralac to prevent corrosion.

Why not contact the class captain at Elton Sailing Club, they have a fleet of Albacores not too far away from you so you may be able to get some ideas first hand from their boats.
