Hello, I'm looking for information regarding ALB's with sail numbers beween 1700 and 1900 in the UK, particularly 1769 that used to belong to the RAF back in the 70's at Thorney Islan. Any info gladly received.
Most if not all Albacore hulls around the time you're interested in were Fairey built hulls. Towards the end of the Fairey era (which this is) Many of the hulls were being "finished" by others - some privateers and some professionals.
1769 specifically was an all Fairey boat (which I suppose you might expect with one going to the RAF) and was first registered in May 1966. The record show it with a name of "Flipper" but this is not necessarily it's starting name!
Thanks Norman, yes that much I knew, I was really trying to find out where the boat ended up after the RAF left Thorney. And ah yes, the Nationals in Arun with my sailing buddy from Singapore Derek Jackman crewing,, 22nd out of 100 starters , not bad for a couple of beer drinking guys out for a good couple of days
Where are you based?
