The above boat has appeared on Apollo Duck and seems to be a Woof, I thought Monarch 6403 was the prototype, any one shed any light on this, looks a really nice boat

Monarch was registered with a later number than other Woof's but she was the first.
Norman will have the full details.

Although Monarch is the first prototype Woof, I think the Woof's were trying slightly different formats and so there are two or three other boats that could also be described as prototypes, of which this is one.

Monarch was measured and registered first with the 6403 number, but subsequently 2 other boats were given earlier numbers and I don't really know why. The earlier numbers were 5891 which was only a month later (June 1976) and 5897 which was certified in August of that year but not measured for a full 12 months after that. The other true prototype though was 6405!

Nothing is ever simple, but suffice to say that 5891 is a genuine Woof.

Graham thanks, she is a really nice boat and I can confirm as the current carer of her that she is definitely a Woof. Norman thank you for enlightening everyone to her background. She is the lowest numbered woof not the first. I put a photo of the original measurement certificate showing she was measured on the 31/05/76 on Apolloduck ( sailingdinghies.apolloduck.co.uk/image.phtml?id=224044&image=8 ) due to the confusion people sometimes have on the lower numbered woofs. I'm hoping that a good enthusiast will want to take her on as she deserves to go to another good home.

All the best John
